On The Mark Management, Inc., a commercial general contractor, has launched On The Mark Construction Services (OTMCS), a new division that delivers specialty construction services and operated equipment to general contractors, property managers, and facilities teams across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. The division operates on what it calls a wet rental model: every piece of equipment deployed arrives with a trained, certified operator, and every service line carries its own crews. For general contractors, this replaces the usual arrangement of separate subcontractors for scanning, cutting, drilling, hauling, and equipment rental, where scheduling and quality risks often fall on the coordinator. By consolidating these services under one vendor, OTMCS aims to reduce the administrative burden and liability exposure that general contractors face when managing multiple specialty trades.
Mark Tiahrt, President of On The Mark Management, Inc., explained the rationale: "When you rent equipment and staff it yourself, you inherit the operator problem, the compliance problem and the scheduling problem. We built this so a GC makes one call, and one crew shows up that can scan the slab, cut the opening, core the penetration and haul it out. And once they see we can put the pipe in the ground too, not just make the hole, the scope gets bigger on its own." This approach not only simplifies logistics but also allows OTMCS to expand its scope organically as clients recognize the breadth of its capabilities.
OTMCS launches with more than 30 pieces of equipment across eight service lines. These include GPR scanning for non-destructive subsurface locating of rebar, conduits, post-tension cables, and voids before cutting or drilling; core drilling from 1 to 24 inches through walls, floors, and ceilings; saw cutting for flat, wall, and wire sawing in concrete, asphalt, masonry, and structural steel; sewer inspections and hydrojetting for CCTV diagnosis and high-pressure clearing; spray foam insulation for open- and closed-cell systems; excavator and skid steer with operator for grading, trenching, and demolition; boom lift with operator for articulating and telescopic lifts up to 135 feet with OSHA-certified operators; and flooring, coatings, and underground services including epoxy and ESD flooring, floor demolition, waterproofing, and underground cable pulling.
The division also offers in-house architectural design, issuing permit-ready drawing sets and self-performing the trades it draws. This capability allows OTMCS to take a scope from drawings through to finished work rather than handing it off midway, further distinguishing it from traditional subcontracting arrangements.
OTMCS serves commercial renovations, tenant build-outs, government facilities, data centers, and new construction. It holds a Virginia Class A contractor license and carries $2 million in general liability coverage with workers' compensation. The division states same-week availability and a two-hour quote turnaround, which could be a significant advantage for projects with tight timelines.
The launch of OTMCS is significant because it addresses a persistent pain point in the construction industry: the fragmentation of specialty trades. By offering a single point of contact for multiple services, OTMCS reduces the coordination burden on general contractors, potentially leading to faster project completion, fewer scheduling conflicts, and clearer accountability. Moreover, the wet rental model ensures that equipment is operated by trained professionals, mitigating safety risks and compliance issues. This integrated approach could set a new standard for how general contractors engage with specialty trades, particularly in the competitive DMV market.
