Students preparing for careers in chiropractic, physical therapy, nursing, and other health fields have a new source of financial support. Mid Atlantic Spinal Rehab & Chiropractic, a Baltimore-based practice, has opened applications for its Pain Relief and Wellness Scholarship. The $1,000 award is designed to help students who have demonstrated a commitment to alleviating pain and improving health.
The scholarship is open to students enrolled in accredited undergraduate, graduate, or professional programs across the United States, including community college students. High school seniors and GED holders who have been accepted to or are enrolled in an accredited program are also eligible. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 and submit three items by email: an essay of 1,000 words or fewer explaining what inspired them to help people with pain, what they have done so far toward that goal, and how their education will help them achieve it; an updated resume; and a current unofficial transcript. The application window closes on August 31, 2027, and the recipient will be announced in September 2027.
Dr. Marc Gulitz, the practice's founder, emphasized the broader mission behind the award. "Every day, our doctors and staff see how much relieving pain can change a person's physical and mental health," he said. "This scholarship lets us invest in a student who shares that purpose, whether they plan to become a chiropractor, a physical therapist, a nurse, or another provider focused on helping others recover." The scholarship is not limited to one field of study, but each essay must show a clear dedication to pain relief and wellness.
The announcement underscores the growing need for qualified professionals in pain management and rehabilitative care. As the U.S. population ages and demand for non-invasive treatments rises, supporting students in these fields can help address workforce shortages and improve patient access to care. By offering the scholarship, the practice is investing in the next generation of providers who will be essential to expanding pain-relief services.
Dr. Marc Gulitz holds a B.S. in molecular biology from Lehigh University and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College. He also serves on the board of the Maryland Chiropractic Association. Founded in Baltimore in 2012, the practice has grown to include 14 chiropractors and serves patients across Baltimore City and five surrounding Maryland counties. The practice's services include chiropractic care, physical therapy, corrective exercises, spinal and postural screenings, and lifestyle advice.
For students weighing the cost of education against their career goals, the $1,000 award can ease financial pressure and allow more focus on studies. It also signals that employers and practitioners in the field recognize the value of early support. The scholarship's broad eligibility criteria ensure that students from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines can apply, potentially widening the pipeline of professionals who will one day treat patients dealing with acute or chronic pain.
The application process is straightforward, but the essay requirement asks candidates to reflect deeply on their motivations. That reflection may help students clarify their career paths while giving reviewers insight into their potential. As health care continues to evolve, initiatives like this scholarship highlight the importance of nurturing talent dedicated to improving quality of life through pain relief and wellness.
