The 'Charm'tastic Mile' of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3), the 1.3-mile corridor connecting downtown, the Inner Harbor, and Harbor East, is seeking an unprecedented 100-year agreement with the City of Baltimore and Mayor Brandon Scott. The proposed agreement, which the organization hopes to finalize in 2026, would solidify the corridor's status as one of America's most iconic streets and ensure the permanent ownership of its trademarked logo and street signs within the city.
Marking its 10th anniversary since being introduced to Charm City on April 25, 2016, the 'Charm'tastic Mile' remains the only USPTO-registered trademark street in Baltimore and the state of Maryland. Both Mayor Scott and Governor Wes Moore honored the milestone with a Certificate of Recognition and a Governor's Citation, respectively. The corridor's introduction date coincides with the unveiling of the Domino Sugars neon sign in 1951, exactly 65 years earlier.
The 'Charm'tastic Mile' gained further prominence in October 2025 when it was heavily featured in the Baltimore edition of Monopoly, launched at the Power Plant. Its marquee placement on the game's Chance cards was highlighted with the script 'Licensed by Hasbro Games,' underscoring its cultural significance.
The push for a 100-year agreement comes as Baltimore moves forward with a nearly $1 billion construction project to revitalize the Inner Harbor, expected to be completed in 2030. Proponents argue that the 'Charm'tastic Mile' will benefit from and contribute to this redevelopment. The corridor is one of the few U.S. streets with a registered trademark, joining the ranks of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, Beverly Hills' Rodeo Drive, and the Las Vegas Strip since its USPTO registration on September 15, 2020.
The 'Charm'tastic Mile' is also closely tied to the city's 'Charm City' nickname, coined in 1975 by then-Mayor William Donald Schaefer, who would have turned 105 in November 2026. According to a statement from Derrick E. Vaughan, an analyst for Famous Streets & Sports Culture In America, the 100-year agreement will ensure that ownership of the 'Charm'tastic Mile' and its iconic branding remains in Baltimore forever. The agreement would also position the corridor as a major catalyst in the growing global economy of famous trademarked streets.
As the popularity of famous streets and sports culture continues to rise worldwide, the 'Charm'tastic Mile' aims to secure its legacy for generations to come through this long-term partnership with the city.
